Study Population

Inclusion Criteria

• Age ≥ 60 years
• Seated SBP >140 but <180 mmHg
• Seated DBP ≤ 95 mmHg
• 24-hour mean ambulatory SBP > 125 mmHg

Exclusion Criteria

• SBP ≥ 200 mmHg
• Known or suspected secondary hypertension
• Hepatic/renal dysfunction
• Congestive heart failure (New York Heart Association class III–IV)
• Active cardiovascular disease
• Uncontrolled insulin-dependent diabetes
