Outcomes
What were the main findings from the study?
- Both MICARDIS® and ramipril improved renal endothelial function in patients with type 2 diabetes, as measured by the response to L-NMMA
- MICARDIS®, but not ramipril, significantly decreased renal vascular resistance and improved renal plasma flow at rest
- The positive effects of MICARDIS® on endothelial dysfunction were accompanied by significant reductions in microalbuminuria, a key marker of cardiovascular risk
Renal plasma flow response (endothelial function) to L-NMMA improved significantly from baseline in both groups, but was numerically greater with MICARDIS®
MICARDIS® significantly improved renal plasma flow and decreased vascular resistance. Changes in these parameters did not reach significance for ramipril
MICARDIS® achieved significant reductions in albuminuria from baseline. Reductions for ramipril were not significant
