Outcomes
What were the main findings from the study?
- There were no significant differences between MICARDIS® and enalapril in GFRs at 5 years or in the change in GFR over 5 years.6
- With both treatments, the steepest decline in GFR was seen in the first year. Thereafter, the rate of decline was markedly reduced and consistent until the study end.6
- Although there was a nonsignificant trend for lower SBP and DBP values at 5 years in patients treated with MICARDIS® than in those given enalapril, similar improvements in blood pressure were achieved overall.6
There were no significant differences in GFR after 5 years’ treatment with MICARDIS® or enalapril. Similarly, change in GFR did not significantly differ between the two treatments
Change from baseline in GFR values showed the steepest decline within the first year of treatment. From years 2 to 5, the rate of decline was markedly less and consistent
Change from baseline in GFR values showed the steepest decline within the first year of treatment. Thereafter, the rate of decline was markedly less and consistent throughout years 2 to 5
There were no differences between treatments in albumin excretion rates, mean serum creatinine levels or UAER after 5 years
